iPad - using Calibre to download news from websites - macphanatic - 04-14-2010 Before getting the iPad, I used Calibre (freeware) to automatically download news/articles from various websites and sync it to my Sony ebook reader every morning. It was a great way to keep up with things. The only issues were that the Sony was a bit slow and some of the articles weren't great to read as graphics were poor and in black and white. The other night I was thinking that it would be great to use Calibre with the iPad. I changed the default setting for the location where Calibre saves the files to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder. I also changed the setting for device from Sony to "Default Output format." The only issue was that Calibre moved it's entire library to the iTunes folder. I wound up having to delete a bunch of files before syncing. The last issue that I had was that I would have to remember to sync the iPad each morning before leaving for work. A perfect use for AppleScript to solve. I've got a daily iCal entry set up to run a script to sync the iPad at 5AM. Now to see if there is a way to automatically delete the older files from iTunes. Thought this might be of interest to the iPad users out there. Re: iPad - using Calibre to download news from websites - richorlin - 04-14-2010 Ask the developer to write a script for you. He's very accommodating in that way. Check the Calibre forum. By the way, where is the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder by default. I don't see it in preferences. |
