what's a good, fair, rate for average cost of B&W laser printing? - clay - 04-14-2010
I have a 2-sided, 2 sheet concert program I'd like to print at my Dad's office using his HP laser printer. I want to pay him for the cost of paper and toner, but have no idea what's a fair rate...
One of the sides of one of the sheets has very minimal graphics and text (less than 5% coverage, I'd guess), and then the other 3 sides are just text. When considering paper costs, toner, and electricity, what is a fair price for, say, 200 copies (or 400 2-sided prints)?
Are we talking .02 per 2-sided page? .10? I think I paid somewhere in the .07 per 2-sided page from a print shop last fall for a similar project, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch and it will be easier to just do it this way.

Two cents for 200 pages? Are you really considering giving your dad $4?
Either consider it a gift or take over a pizza when you go to print.

I know we're not talking about a large quantity or significant expense for either party involved, I just like to be fair when I'm asking to use someone else's equipment--whether it belongs to my father, or a complete stranger.

Offer the same $.07 and free admission. Or just offer to make him a sponsor (just a mention and a thanks at the program).

But then you should still price it out so that he can deduct it as an advertising expense
