MobileMe -- Syncing Capability - SKYLANE - 04-14-2010

Just curious what can the MobileMe sync be expected to resolve and what it can't regarding contacts. I began to contemplate this when I had some conflicts for the very first time last night between different devices under my MobileMe Cloud.

I have the following devices under my MobileMe:

(1) Web (at me.com)
(2) MacBook Pro
(3) Dell Mini 10v
(4) iPhone

Question: If I were to put a contact into the calendar (previously synced) on each of the 4 devices right behind each other, would it be reasonable to expect that the sync operation can handle all this? Meaning, insert new contact on the Web. Then pick up iPhone enter new contact. Then enter new contact on MacBook Pro. Then enter new contact on Dell Mini 10v. All within about 3 minutes of each other. Would this be a confusing event for the sync process to sort out for all the devices? Or, is the sync process more than capable?

I ask this because, on the MacBook Pro, I made some formatting updates to about 50 or more contacts. Not to long after that, I deleted a contact from my iPhone. There then existed a discrepancy between my 4 devices for viewing data. So, I tried the experiment above for entering contacts in quick succession at each on the 4 devices. Two of the entries (web and iPhone) made it to all 4 locations. The other two (MBP and Dell Mini 10v) did not sync to the other three locations at all, even when left over night.

Since this past evening was first time I saw discrepancy between my devices, I want to get a good understanding how to avoid the discrepancies. Maybe I have preferences screwed up and need to start over somewhere...

Go to System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync and make sure it is on automatic and select sync now.
Make sure the contacts is selected in the checkmark box

Ken Sp.

I did so much last night trying to figure this out, I am fairly certain the preferences you highlight are what is set on my devices. However, I will go back to double check tonight, and report back.

The Dell Mini 10v (10.6) was just recently added under my account, I will have to take an especially close look there....

I was syncing preferences for awhile, then I did turn that off. Wasn't quite sure what preferences were being sync'd and which ones were not. Was hoping to find that on Apple support somewhere.

Make sure you back up each address book on each machine--File>Export>AddressBook Archive before and after (rename the second back up) just incase it get really mangled up.
