Worth upgrading to MBP 2.53? - Buck - 04-15-2010

How much faster or better would the 15" MBP 2.53 be compared to a 2.33GHz MBP with Radeon X1600, 3GB of RAM, and a 500GB 7200rpm HD? I guess I would take out the HD and stick it in the new machine.

I'm tempted by this one if it makes sense:
Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo $1349
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory
250GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
SD card slot
Built-in 7-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics

Very little.

What are you trying to speed up?

Nothing at all. The 2.33 would go to Mrs. Buck, and I would have a new (or refurb) Mac.
Just wondering how much better these new Macs really are.

Oh.

I was under the impression your choice was between keeping what you have vs. getting that refurb, not that refurb vs. something else.

well, they arent a lot faster -- but the build quality, as well as the battery life are 10X better

and you would be going from a matte screen to a glossy screen -- I didnt have a problem... but some might

If you use a lot of memory, the upgrade could well be worth it since that 2.53GHz MBP can take up to 8GB of RAM.

I disagree - the unibody is noticeably faster in just about every aspect.

A few graphics card intensive apps would not like the lack of a video card, but I suspect it would still be faster.

and that screen of yours is getting pretty old... put it up next to a new LCD backed screen and you'll dump the old 2.33

hal - think you mean "LED backed screen".

Is that an Apple refurb? I like getting full warranties on laptops.

Good luck.
