Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - Microman - 05-23-2010 Sittiing here at work, listening to his Weekend Tech show from 11-2. He had spent other shows telling us to be careful with Facebook, as they are always making changes to the personal settings options. And that it is too complicated for people to go thru 50 or more settings to make sure things remain confidential. He deleted his account, but did not recommend others to do that, only be aware. Today, he talked of a broadcast radio station that had its' Facebook page disable after they did a story about the Facebook alternative Diaspora...(sp?)... and talking about the Personal Settings, and Privacy. Now he says YOU should all quit Facebook. And that May 31 is QUIT FACEBOOK DAY. http://techguylabs.com/radio/ShowNotes/Show668#toc3 http://www.quitfacebookday.com/ Interesting.... the power of the spoken word Re: Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - (vikm) - 05-23-2010 I wonder his thoughts on Google. I'm far more concerned with them and their "We're not the baddies" routine. Anytime someone claims something as strongly as they do, it's usually preemptive. There really isn't much of anything on my FB page that would bother me if some complete stranger found out. Re: Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - $tevie - 05-23-2010 I made up all my personal info and left off my birth year. I doubt it would stymie someone truly out to get me but I think we all take that chance even on forums such as this one. Amazon is the site that knows waaaaay too much about me. I just try not to worry about it. Re: Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - Blankity Blank - 05-23-2010 Quit Facebook Day isn't Laporte's idea, he's only agreeing with the idea of it. These guys are the godfathers behind it. Re: Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - haikuman - 05-23-2010 hmmmmmmmmmmm ...... No wonder 14 privacy groups filed a unfair-trade complaint with the FTC against Facebook on Wednesday. Mathew Ingram at GigaOm wrote a post entitled “The Relationship Between Facebook and Privacy: It’s Really Complicated.” No, that’s just wrong. The relationship is simple: Facebook thinks that your notions of privacy — meaning your ability to control information about yourself — are just plain old-fashioned. Head honcho Zuckerberg told a live audience in January that Facebook is simply responding to changes in privacy mores, not changing them — a convenient, but frankly untrue, statement. In Facebook’s view, everything (save perhaps your e-mail address) should be public. Funny too about that e-mail address, for Facebook would prefer you to use its e-mail–like system that censors the messages sent between users. Or, don't even start/join. Re: Leo Leporte now thinks everyone should Quit Facebook - Golfer - 05-23-2010 I deactivated my account last week. Not that I was much of a user any how, but it got to be more of a hassle than it was worth. Cartoons are such a fantastic art form.
