Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - wowzer - 05-29-2010 If this pricing is true, then I may want to get one: http://www.teslamotors.com/models/index.php about $50,000 Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - blooz - 05-29-2010 Does it come with an extension cord at least? Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - davester - 05-29-2010 Yep. Toyota just invested $50 million in Tesla and Tesla has bought the former GM/Toyota NUMMI auto assembly plant in Fremont California where they are going to build the Model S. They are also planning to bring out a less expensive model (possibly badged as a Toyota to compete with the Nissan Leaf. Except for the fact that there are no current plans for a convertible version, the Model S looks like something I'd be very interested in. Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - Mini 9 - 05-29-2010 That's what I heard first. Now, I heard they are not really partnering, and it was just a way to get the NUMMI plant utilized for saving some face. Of course NUMMI has a capacity of 300,000 cars a year, and the now broke Googleaire Musk will be lucky to make/sell 10,000 cars a year. Also, just listened to the UAW's President Gettlefinger salivating on getting the shop (back to ) union staffed, too. http://www.wwj.com/pages/128614.php [click on May 28 report link] Tesla and Fisker are today's PT Barnum. Well after an inconvenient person, of course. Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - Seacrest - 05-29-2010 I thought Musk was an eBay/Paypal-aire? Yes. - RAMd®d - 05-29-2010 http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,939626,939626#msg-939626 Only because you asked. Re: Yes. - RAMd®d - 05-29-2010 Only "about $50, 000" now. Wait until it actually ships. I'm thinking $60,000+. Oh, and... - RAMd®d - 05-29-2010 ...we haven't seen the price list of options. Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - mrlynn - 05-29-2010 What if you're going 450 miles (as we do occasionally)? Pull up to a gas station and ask to plug in to a spare outlet? And does this 'QuickCharge' actually get you a full charge? I'll think about an electric car when charging/battery-swap stations are as ubiquitous as gas stations. Of course then we'll need a few hundred more power plants to generate all that electricity. Good looking car, though. /Mr Lynn Re: Anyone Heard of the Tesla S? - davester - 05-31-2010 mrlynn wrote: This is the wrong tool for the job, just as your family sedan is useless if you're planning on crossing the ocean. This car is only useful for about 95% of driving trips. For the other 5% you'd need to use a different kind of car. It's highly unlikely that someone buying a $50,000 luxury sedan only owns one vehicle. |
