Non-buyer's Remorse? - Buzz - 05-30-2010

Picked up a mew Mac Mini to set up as a client testing clone, but passed on the free after rebate printer, as we still have a couple of those laying around that aren't selling very quickly on CL very quickly... now wondering whether it's worth going back and getting another unneeded printer and hassling w/ the rebate??? What is the current consensus on "almost free, after hassle" printers these days? Thanks.

The Canon I got does a much better job of printing than the HP I was using. Problem is that it's not an ethernet printer. I just did USB sharing on it. No problem.

It's academic now - both the Mac and printer have to be on the same invoice to get the rebate.

he could buy both on the same receipt, then return the new unopened Mac using the old receipt. Of course, you need to triple check the return policy (time period, restocking fee for non-open items, whether or not the SN of the machine is printed on the receipt, and YMMV)

15 day return for unopened... not worried about "same receipt", easy enough to make that happen; but already have four reliable, better-than-the-one-you-can-get-for-free, printers, and a couple of prior freebies now trying to be sold on CL, so it boils down to the novelty of whether it is worth taking advantage of another "free printer after rebate offer". In the past, some freebies have been easy to resell, whereas others have not, and I don't know whether it's seasonal, or has to do w/ what model printer(s) are part of the program, or the overall economic climate, etc. If I knew that, I'd know whether it makes sense to partake in the current offer... Thanks,

I'd get it and donate it. Plenty of places are looking for current working hardware. They won't take the old stuff, that's for sure.

Not worth the hassle, IMO. Forget about it and move on.

Don't bother.

Even respectable vendors are not honoring rebates first try these days. I purchased a MBP 13 from MacConnection (deal was posted here), and I sent the rebate in right away. I got the automatic email saying they were processing my rebate; I had to go back to the vendor's site to learn that my warranty was declared ineligible. I called them, and I reached a person who admitted this was a problem, and they would be correcting it sometime within the week.

If it were not for $100, I would not have bothered to check. Which is what the vendors are counting on when they make their deals dependent on rebate processing.
