Agfa SnapScan 1212u
#1
I got this thing about 6 years ago on eBay & it's been connected to my PC at work ever since, always ready to go when I needed it. Today I got ready to scan something but it wouldn't come on. I unplugged then replugged USB cable & the light came on & it did its startup routine then the lamp went out. I did this to the power cord as well & the same thing happened.

I unplugged from the hub & connected it directly to the computer, which of course the stupid PC thought I was adding new hardware & wanted to reinstall everything, which I did for the sake of argument, but it wont come on & stay on.

Any ideas or suggestions, besides hauling this thing out to the dumpster? It's lasted longer than any scanner I've ever owned.

Probably dumpster time, alas. The light doesn't come back on when you try to open the scanner driver software?

Here I insert my predictable lament about Agfa's exit from the scanner business. They really made the good stuff for graphic arts uses. Even their consumer-grade scanners were pretty nice products overall. They must've seen the writing on the wall with scanner prices dropping like lead bricks at the time.

My own SnapScan e50 is still working great. The Mac OS X software, last modified back in the 10.1.x days IIRC, still works fine in Tiger and Photoshop CS2.

My 1212u (in the now unfashionable Bondi blue/green) has a button on the front which, when pushed, turns off the lamp. I wonder if the button on your scanner is stuck somehow...

The SnapScan software works fine in 10.3.9 but I decided to shell out for VueScan to get more scanning options and OCR. I guess if my 1212u decides to conk out, I can stii use the VueScan with a replacement scanner.
