iPhone 3G Unlock / JailBreak iPhone Follow Up
#1
FU to yesterdays thread http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1080506

I picked up a iPhone 3G yesterday for $100 on craigslist and sought advice to unlock for use on T-Mobile.
A big THANKS again to all that helped with links and advice.

I upgraded to 4.1 per DavidDC's advice using Pwnage Tool, which was far more intuitive (mac like) than some
of the tutorials that I read. By upgrading it also did a JailBreak on the phone. The only "hitch" was when it
reconnected to iTunes restoring with 4.2 was only option which would upgrade the baseband which I didn't want to do.
A quick re-read of the tutorial at iPhoneHeat showed that I forgot to hold down the alt/option key.
Once I figured out my error it was smooth sailing.

I went to Cydia on the iPhone and ran the unlock app, dropped in my SIM card and was good to go. I get good
service from T-Mobile in my area except at the house I am on the fringe. I was getting 2 bars with my old
Nokia flip phone, which drowned this summer while docking the sailboat. I have been using an old Samsung
candybar phone while looking for an iPhone deal. The Samsung spoiled me. It was old and low tech with its
stub antenna and all, but pulled 4 to 5 bars and was like talking on a landline. The iPhone is pulling 3 to 4 bars
and sound quality is great. Thanks again to all that helped.

Hey, That's what we're here for (collectively speaking), although I did absolutely nothing . . . individually or collectively! Glad that it all worked out! ! ! !

Yea!!
Enjoy your "new" iPhone!

Now do yourself a favor & drop a buck at the Cydia Store for 5-Row Keyboard.
