About a week ago I posted about desiring to pick up a couple of add'l webcams to add to the network;

and based on the responses in the thread, and some friendly PM's, I ended up w/ a Microsoft LifeCam Studio HD and a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac, for a nickel under $60 & $50 respectively to fit the required situation. Well, at least at this location, I have observed the following...
The LifeCam Studio has all kinds of neat stuff on the windoze side, but falls flat in comparison on the Mac side because of lack of equivalent drivers/software. It performs well as a basic webcam w/ iChat, Skype, etc., and the autofocus works, but lags. The sound is quite good, and the flexibility/adjustability of its mounting is perfection, for what it is.
The Logitech provides a better/truer looking picture than the M$ Studio, and the autofocus is quicker on the Mac, but because of that, it has blurry "trails" during movement, whereas the LifeCam gets blocky/choppy while refocusing. The sound is quite decent, but I think the ambience of the M$ unit is better. I haven't tested either in a setting where fidelity really matters, so maybe down the road we'll give that a try. The Logitech has a beefier mount that the LifeCam, but it's no where near as adjustable. FWIW, the supposedly "dented" box deal from Logitech was anything but; it was pristine... methinks perhaps a marketing ploy to clear out inventory for the C910, or they sold all the actual dented's in stock and substituted I got upgraded.
Both webcams have some nice features, but the problem w/ getting both, is that you want the best of both rolled into one :-)
Thankfully, they're both quite usable, and I'm sure we'll doing a bit more tinkering w/ both in the coming weeks to figure out if there is an overall winner, but the prices were right, and they work as intended, so (tu).
