What's wrong w/ this Panasonic ad? Possible RYF reject?

Not sure what all the commotion is about...
Got a usual Panasonic Club sale email yesterday.
Nothing too exciting, though the surfing pic was kinda cool.
Not in the market for another television so didn't pay too close attention, but nothing grabbed me as a totally amazing gotta have.
Then got apology email today, but it doesn't say what the specific screw up was.
Anybody here figure out where the snafu is/was?

The ad:

The apology:

It says "up to 40% off", but the listed discounts are all more than 40% off, and that 60" is about 48% off.

Not sure what the problem was; prices shown in the graphic they sent you match up fairly well with real-world prices for those items. Amazon's price on the 50" GT30 is a little lower than what is shown in the Panasonic e-mail, while Amazon's price on the 60" ST30 is a little higher.

The 60-inch ST30 is $167 less than Amazon's price, which is more than 10% difference. Is it a price mistake?

On a side note, why does Panasonic think I'll buy a teevee for $1507 when I know EPP folks can get it for $1340?

maybe pissed off a few retailers who just aren't in the right channels and couldn't sell it for that price ?

The math seemed fine; didn't bother to compare percentages. The deals weren't *THAT* great, so did not understand the followup apology email...

Maybe the prices they advertised simply weren't the prices they meant to sell them for.

Doesn't anyone proof read any more?

Wouldn't that save the from "having to regain your confidence"?

Working in print, everything is proofread. Accuracy doesn't matter on the interwebs?
