HD corrupted out of nowhere...now, all glimmerblocker / little snitch stuff is gone
#1
Well, I don't get many issues with my computer....but, last night, it started acting wonky and then wouldn't boot. I started up from DW disk and DW didn't even see the HD. Restarted from Snow Leopard disk and it was unable to repair the drive. Did a format and restore from TM backup.

However, now, all my glimmerblocker and little snitch rules are gone and the freaking "glimmerblocker proxy" is popping up every 2 seconds. Anybody know where that file may be located?

I wonder if my HD is on it's way out...we'll see...SMART status is 'verified', so...fingers crossed.

you're supposed to paste that snippet into glimmerblocker, but I don't understand where...

...The formula that the DU uses to establish the SMART status is not very conservative. It'll say "verified" right up to the moment a drive fails.

Try SMART Utility.

chakravartin....ok, sorry to be obtuse..

but, I see that screen, but where, exactly, do I post that entire snippet? It says to make your own rule then paste in that snippet. Into what field?

ran that utility..overall 'passed" but there were 5 'errors'...interesting...

New Filter... upper left. Click the plus-icon.

New Rule... lower left. Click the plus-icon.

I haven't done that particular hack... I guess it goes in as a transform-filter because it ain't JavaScript or CSS.

Some errors are more serious than others.

A few CRC errors aren't a big deal. A hundred CRC errors... replace the drive.

A few remapped sectors aren't a big deal. A few bad sectors... consider replacing the drive.

SMART Utility is very conservative. If you got a passing score then the drive is probably okay.

That's where I get lost.

At first I thought you'd paste it into the field under "Transform," but looking at it again I think it goes under "JavaScript."
