Now that we are 80% settling in our new place. I miss our old place where we had our lit' organic garden in the small but intimate backyard. No backyard nor balcony here. One 7.5 feet tall "windows" gives us the sole light source in the living/kitchen area. Since it's east facing we don't get much sun. Neither do we get much heat. Thanks goodness. Right now I am planting chives, sweet basil and chillies in a small tin rectangular container. It's been only a week. They are barely sprouting. What would be the next logical steps? Tia

Check into Aquaponics.
A small goldfish tank with a pump sending the water into the plants, the water flows through and drains back into the fish. An easy cycle and plants grow like crazy year round with no real cost beyond fish food. I'm running a large outdoor system and it is the only way I'll garden.
Just google the web and you'll figure it out.

Good idea!
We'll sub with the legal herbs instead :-)
