good point; but some rural areas have crap cell reception, too.

point is if Apple made this, all the pundits would be pointing these EXACT shortcomings out.

At times, it seems that Motley Fool publishes (contradictory) opinions on anything from anyone who buys the right guy a beer.

I agree....I think it called MERCHANDISING. There headlines seem to be anything to grab your attention. But did think this article was interesting.

Don't YOU ever have an opinion?

I haven't taken the time to read your link because you never seem to have an opinion. Based upon the link address, I don't think I will ever read it.

What do YOU think?

I am interested in what other people think. Not in my opinion. Stating my opinion only gets "you are wrong" etc etc. Asking others opinion gets more ideas on the subject. Besides, I didn't know my opinion was so important to you. Seems like I do other things you don't like. Can't please everyone. Sorry.:oldfogey:

If I had a Chromebook and took it on vacation, and the vacation home was remote and didn't have wifi or high-speed internet, would it work?

I sort of doubt it.

The answer is, "it depends." What do you want to do with that Chromebook? If you're off to work on your novel or basic spreadsheet, the answer could well be "yes." If the answer is "watch movies" of "edit video" or "play games," probably not. I have one of the dirt-cheap plastic Samsung Chromebooks (I thoroughly agree that the pricey Pixel model is ridiculous), and it's pretty much useless for high-processing-power and/or offline stuff. It rarely plays back video well, even from YouTube. I don't know what the heck reviewers were watching when they claimed it could handle 1080p video--it can barely play back 640x480 in my experience.

But... for everyday tasks when you DO have a connection? It can't be beat in bang/buck terms. Is it going to be suitable for video editing or Handbrake or anything like heavy content creation? Beyond writing, "no." Can you customize the hell out of it? Nope (nor can you do so to an iPad without jailbreaking). But that's not the point of the device. For browsing/email/writing, it's just fine... and for a fourth of the price of a MacBook, that's going to be very attractive to the cost-conscious customer.

good points, Will.

sounds to me like an iPad would do everything the Pixel does.
