Gee, I hope not. All I can think about is trying to see the metadata from the originial file. Sometimes people have stuff like that in there.

Yes - there is still FlickrMail, though it's well hidden.
Assuming you also have a Flickr account, go to the persons main flickr page and hidden under the "..." menu on the RH side above their photos is send flickr mail. Alternately, use this link and change the username www . flickr . com/mail/write/?to=[USERNAME GOES HERE] This will alert the person at whatever email they used to sign up for Flickr that they have a message.
