OS X Mail and Gmail messed up: Inbox is empty
#1
Somehow I stopped receiving notifications from OS X Mail when new email arrived, so I decided to just delete the accounts I had set up in Mail and recreate them. One account is a work Exchange account and the other is a Gmail account.

The work Exchange account was recreated without any issues, though I'm not sure the problem of not getting notifications was solved. I'll have to monitor and see....

However, when I recreated the Gmail account, something weird happened: my Inbox is empty, but Sent Mail is not (ie, it's synced with Gmail). I forgot to check All Mail in Mail to see if that is synced or not. The other weird thing that happened is that when I tried to map each Gmail "folder/label" to the corresponding Mail ones (using the "Use this Mailbox for" menu item), the menu item choices are all greyed out.

So, I have two Gmail/Mail problems:

1. Inbox is empty (when, in reality, it of course is not)
2. Can't map Gmail folders/lables to Mail folders

Gmail is horrible in Apple mail, any mail client actually. It does not follow standards and was not designed to be used from anything g but the web interface or google mobile apps.

Yes, but I at least had it set up to a point where it was working kinda like I wanted it to. Now, it's all fubar'd for sure!

seems like you had gmail set up with a gmail pop server and likely set it up so that email was removed from the server when you downloaded the email. That was a pretty common setup 10 years ago.

No, it was definitely setup as IMAP. No POP for me!
