zoombie folder in the side bar. How to remove it?
#1
A friend tried to install an application (Audacity) and she has some problems and asked me to help. I noticed that she had the Audacity folder inside the Applications folder, so that was OK. There was a folder in the side bar. This folder was in fact pointing to the Audacity folder from the DMG file that she downloaded earlier (not to the Audacity folder inside Applications). So when we clicked this folder, the DMG image was mounting, and the Audacity folder was opening up. I did not realize this. I ejected the volume, moved the DMG image to the trash and emptied the trash. Then I troubleshooted the issue and got Audacity working properly. But now she has this zoombie Audacity folder in the side bar, which points to the Audacity folder from that DMG image which is now long gone.

I tried to remove it from the side bar, but I can't. CTRL+Click or Left-Click does not give me the choice to move it, only to "Open Sidebar Preferences..."

I tried to re-download the DMG image, hoping that this would link the zoombie folder to that image and I would be able to remove it, but no such luck. I think the new DMG image has a different file ID from the original DMG image

What other options do I have? maybe delete a plist file somewhere?

Have you tried holding down the Cmd/Apple key while dragging it out of the sidebar? It should go Poof when you release the mouse.

Thanks, that did it. I swear I tried this a few times before and it didn't work. I was logged in via logmein from Safari and for some reason the connection was pretty unreliable. I logged in via Chrome and it just worked!

Thanks!

You are a very good friend. I could've had barely been bothered to chase down the solution on my own behalf!

Sometimes I am a good friend indeed, other times I am the biggest anus hole there is. LOL
