iPhone 6 brings simultaneous voice and data to Verizon
#1
I didn't notice Tim making much of a big deal about this yesterday, but maybe he mentioned it during one of the many glitches in the stream. Anyway, it seems that with VoLTE support, Verizon customers will finally be able to talk and surf at the same time, like ATT customers have been able to do. Here is a link that talks more about it.

Except when you go OUT of LTE coverage, the call will drop, not roam to the cellular network. So in 3G areas, you're back to the current model of Call OR Data.

Supposedly audio data under VoLTE won't count against your VZW data cap. So this is potentially a good thing. But...

but it will also bring WiFi Calling. Unless VzW decides to block that .......

Well, from what I read, only TMobile currently supports this, as far as starting a call on WiFI and then handing off to cellular, and TM had WiFi integrated calling for a long time.

I have long wished that the iPhone had native WiFi calling built in, because I get crappy cell signal at my house and native WiFi would help a lot.

If the carrier doesn't have what used to be called UMA call capability, like TM, I don't think you will be able to use this feature, unfortunately, until they enable UMA or whatever it is now called.

I have T-Mo and the WiFi Calling is rather helpful.....
I think that UMA is available and native (my understanding), it's just whether VzW is "generous" enough to turn it on. Or ATT for that matter.
I still have the cisco MicroCell from my days with ATT. Didn't help.
I guess Time will tell as release happens.

An operator needs special network equipment to support UMA, you're not getting it if they hadn't bought it.
