I burned our wedding DVDs in "Stone" (AKA Follow up to previous M-DISC threads)
#1
I inquired if anyone was using M-DISC, apparently no one was using these but a few were interested. A few weeks ago I noticed that my new portable LITE-ON cheapo DVD burner ($16) supports M-DISC and I decided to get some to try.

I got a 10 pack of DVD M-DISC. Those are made in Czech Republic and arrived in a plastic case.

Although I do not own a Bluray burner yet, I got a 3 pack of those too, I may eventually get a Bluray burner if I decide to invest more in this technology, since it is about $5 per BR disc for 25 GB of data, vs $3 per DVD disc for only 4.7 GB of data, so price per GB is lower for BR.

As a first project, I made backup copies of our wedding DVDs which somehow survided intack in all these years (I also have ISO image copies on a hard drive somwhere but I didn't check those in a while). So I made fresh Disc Images with Disc Utility and I burned with the cheap Lite-ON

after I made these discs, I decided to label them in a Brother 835; I did not like the fact that the "originals" were not labeled. For the record, we have 2 sets from about 10 years ago, one set is DVD+R and one set is DVD-R. Back then there were some issues with some players not reading both formats and I wanted to have both formats, different brands. DVD-R was TDK, DVD+R was TRAXDATA. anyway, both sets are OK but unlabeled.

I went ahead and burned new copies from the DVD+R set (TRAXDATA) onto the M-DISC. as an interesting observation, the M-DISC is seen as DVD+R by the computer.

as a side note: a wedding in my country has 3 separate events:

around late morning, noon, or early afternoon you go to the city hall to say "I DO" and sign the papers, take photos, take picture, etc.

Later in the afternoon you go to Church for the religious ceremony.

Than late in the evening the real party starts, usually around 8 PM and going strong till 6 AM. During this time around 1-2 AM a bunch of friends kidnap the bride and the groom is supposed to pay a ransome, usually a case (12 bottles) of Champaige or some other fine drinks.

EDIT: I forgot the reaso why I brought this up. When they stole my bride, as I went outside the restaurant/hotel to make some phone calls to negotiate with the kidnappers, there was another bride from another wedding who got stollen with her friends and were passing by on the way to their hiding place. I asked her if she wanted to come inside and say Hello to the people at my wedding, have a dance and drink. Guess what, she and her friends came in, everyone laughed, we had a short dance and a toast, took some pictures, then wished her the best and let her go. My wife found out when she came back, I told her that I had a backup ready, luckily she has a good sense of humor. She didn't even see the other bride until a few weeks later when we came back from honeymoon and got the wedding album and DVDs back. So yeah, a wedding with one groom and two brides.

After I burned and labeled both Discs (Disc 1 is city hall and church, disk 2 is the all night party), I labeled them in the brother and tested in all DVD drives I found in the house.

Lite-on read them just fine (make sense, since it also verified the discs after burning)

Pioneed 110 something (OWC, 2005?) also read them just fine.

MBP 15" late 2011 OK. MBP 13" early 2011 OK.

PowerBook G4 2005 also OK.

Panasonic 5-disc DVD player form 2001-2002 did NOT read the discs. It just tried, tried, and nothing happened. I tried both discs. But to be fair, I did not use this in about 8 years so I don't even know if it still read real DVDs.

Panasonic Bluray player (BD-60 something, from 2009) recognized the discs as DVDs per the message in the LED screen on the player, but after a few seconds it said it cannot play the disc.

Mac Mini from 2010 just spit it out, no error message.

So mixed success at reading these discs.

here is a pic of the DVD, Bluray (not opened yet) and old PowerBook in background. Name and faces blurred out for privacy resasons.

I applaud you to etch your marriage commitment in stone!

Of course, visions of Moses coming down from the mountain are coming to me if you decide to divorce!
