Irradiated food is an excellent method of killing bacteria...
It'll also never happen because there is vocal minority of people that are just flat too stupid to understand anything beyond the word "radiation".. which their little peanut sized brains also don't understand.. but are afraid of anyway.

I've been told I have some strong opinions on this subject Big Grin

yet these exact same idiots are being irradiated as we speak by background radiation from the planet they are living on. But that is different.

I wonder what their watch faces look like?

Tell 'em about their irradiated living rooms, and watch them live in the dark.

I bet they're scared to death about dihydrogen monoxide. You could have these people fleeing into the remotest regions of the earth to escape all these radiation and chemical dangers.

Only in that we are bombarded by so many wavelengths of various radiation 24/7 that getting your panties in a twist over irradiating food in a very controlled manner is rather shortsighted. Spouting off that irradiation is evil and bad while they are NOT wearing a foil helmet and boxers shows that they are ignorant ;-)

Copper. Not aluminum foil. Aluminum foil isn't very good at blocking radio signals. And it has to be a full-helmet to do any good.

Smile

'Truth be told, I'm inclined to line my bedroom with grounded brass or copper mesh when I own my own house so that for at least 8 hours a day my body ISN'T bombarded with radiation.

The reason that irradiated foods aren't immediately dangerous is that they don't become radioactive from their exposure, but merely lose some vitamins from what is essentially a cooking process. It's possible that they'd be dangerous in that a person eating nothing but irradiated foods might be missing some trace nutrients.

But other sources of radiation may be dangerous and we just don't know it yet. What does being bombarded with microwave radiation from satellites 24/7 do to a person's body over 40 or 50 years of exposure? Who the heck knows?! Who has done 40 or 50 years of testing?

Maybe Heinlein was prophetic in the novella "Waldo" and we should all be wearing radiation suits.

But not to protect us from irradiated foods.

D'oh! you are absolutely right. Or lead foil, if you can get it. Not really RF, but background gamma rays.
