Upgrading 2 dells and a gateway from xp Home to XP Pro?

I've got a friend who has one Gateway laptop and two dells (one desktop and one laptop) that all shipped with XP home. What is the best route and purchase price/vendor to purchase XP pro for these machines?

I'm aware of some discussion on versions shipped with dells and want to make sure the upgades purchased will install sucessfully with the os's currently installed. thanks.

1. Toss those hunks of crap out the window. The higher up the better.
2. Take friend to Mac store.
3. Purchase Mac(s). Set up Mac for him(s). Give him a tour of the wonders.
4. Explain AGAIN that no, he doesn't need anti-virus and anti-spyware.
5. Be patient. He has a lot of unlearning and deprogramming to go through.

If you really want to be a friend to this guy, I mean ...
