iPhone with Tracfone service?
#1
Is anyone using the Tracfone cellular phone and dat service with their iPhone? It looks to be rather inexpensive for those of us who don't use the telephone much. Tracfone service with a flip phone works well. I understand they use the Verizon network.

Mrs. Acer uses a 4S on Tracfone. $10 a month plus tax. No coverage problems. Perfect for her usage patterns.

Also consider Pagespluscellular (same owner as tracfone, but different offerings. On a 4S I can pay as little as $10 every four months.)

I don't know if they offer the minimal $10 tracfone on the 5 or 6; I know pagesplus makes you do at least a monthly $30 plan to activate one.

My wife and I pay a combined $15 month with two iPhones (5 & 4s) using Puretalk family plan. We get 230 minutes a month and unused minutes roll over. You can add 400mb of data for $10

I use a 4s on Tracfone, and it's been great. There was a $10 activation fee, and since then I've spent maybe $10/month on service (ebay's shopcelldeals has great prices). I switched the voicemail to YouMail's free version - better features than TF & doesn't eat up your minutes to listen to messages. I believe I might have posted a more detailed description here a few months ago, but I don't have time to check now. I'll see whether I can find it later.

Another vote for PureTalk. Unused minutes and data roll over, and you can add more of each.

Looks like I didn't do much more detail in earlier posts. Here's the column that pointed me toward YouMail (http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-work-a...imitation/).

Just hooked up an iPhone 5 on tracfone (used verizon) yesterday, verizon network where I live. I've been using their phones, flip, for over 5 years. Finally, my friend sold me his old phone, my first iPhone. Seems to be working good, verizon has the best signal where I live, out on a peninsula. I'm not a heavy phone user, so I should be fine with data, have iPads for that and wifi. Happy as a clam with it, can text finally, hated the flip phones for that and text apps on iPad.

I'm a long-time Tracfone user, who also carries an iPod touch, and would love to merge them together into an iPhone, but still pay my $10 a month. What's involved with doing this? Do I need to find a specific type of iPhone? I'd love to hear more details on what's involved, as the battery in my current Tracfone is starting to die, and instead of replacing it, I was looking at Tracfone's lineup of Android smartphones, but I'd much prefer an iPhone, even if it's a 4s.

macbeer, it's easy, especially with a 4S. I moved from a flip phone/ipod touch combo to a 4S last summer, and loving it.

For the 4S, get a used Verizon iPhone, and follow instructions at the Tracfone website. Look for the "Bring your own phone" program. If you run into a snag, give customer service a call.

For the 5 and above, as I understand it, you'll need to purchase a sim from tracfone and install it in the phone, then activate it the above way.
