I'm not sure "neat" is the right word, since it would utterly disrupt communications, navigation, civilization in general, many species (i.e. birds) that rely on magnetic navigation, and might expose us to unhealthful levels of radiation (due to collapse of the protective magnetic field) thus shortening our lifetimes.
