This has been built-in to Mac OS for a year or two.
Open System Preferences to Keyboard, and activate Dictation and Enhanced Dictation. In Sys Pref, Select the Accessibility pane. In that pane, go down the sidebar to Dictation. Explore. And Bob's yer uncle.

I've used Dictation (in Sierra) to add voice commands to my home automation system.
Works pretty well, except that Dictation stops responding after about six days. I have to turn it off and back on to get it working again. To work around this, I wrote an off/on Applescript and scheduled it to run twice a week in the middle of the night. Problem solved.

I wish Siri would take a page from Dictation Command.
Like the old Mac voice control (remember the little disc that popped up in the upper right corner?) there was/is no internet required. I'd like to see a lot of Siri functionality live on computers and devices and not need to be 'connected'. |
