CURB ALERT: Trade-in old baby car seats for $30 Walmart GC
#1
I see used busted old grungy baby car seats at the curb on trash day all the time. That's like throwing out 30 dollar bills!

Cut and paste below:

The first-ever Walmart Car Seat Recycling Event will take place Sept. 16-30, in celebration of National Baby Safety Month.

Don’t toss it, trade it in-store.

Did you know that car seats expire? Has your kiddo outgrown their car seat? Safety is number one with our little ones, and if a car seat has expired or your kiddo has outgrown the car seat, it is time for a new one! As part of JPMA’s National Baby Safety Month, Walmart has teamed up with TerraCycle to recycle used car seats.
From September 16–30, bring in the car seat that your kiddo's outgrown and get a $30 Walmart gift card for your baby's next car seat! Car seats collected in this program will be recycled 100% by TerraCycle and each component will be diverted from the landfill.
Here’s how it works

• Bring your car seat to the trade in event at your participating Walmart Supercenter.

• Take the car seat to the Customer Service counter to be recycled

• Receive your $30 Walmart gift card* that you can use in-store or online to buy items for your baby

More details:

Limit 2 trade-ins per household
Any car seat brand accepted
Booster seats are not eligible for trade in

Also, if your baby seat meets current safety standards, check your local charity or fire department. They may take donations of car seats for families who struggle to afford safe seating for their kids.

Good not to have these end up in a landfill; even better if their lives can be prolonged through protecting other children.

Many/most charities and donation sites refuse baby car seats. Too much liability. Trade-in the car seat at Walmart to be recycled for the $30 GC and donate the card to a struggling family if you wish. Way easier. Same warm and fuzzy feeling.

Any car seats out there for $30? Maybe at Walmart?

Sorry - you're right, a lot of charities don't take car seats because of liability concerns. That's one of the reasons many local fire departments accept donations, because they are qualified to vet donations as safe or fit for recycling.

Where I live, a family in need would get a lot more mileage (ha, ha!) out of a donated car seat than from a donated gift card, given the cost of a new car seat.

Hi everyone,

Just an FYI, car seats have expiration dates. The few charities that accept car seats will not take any that have expired.

I have heard that Walmart* will pay you more if you leave the child in the seat so they can turn them into associates.

We had our old car seat sitting in the garage for a few years, and traded for the Target GC last year. Sucky thing was that it could only be used on a very limited selection of baby items... our son was 10 at the time. So I gave the GC to a woman at work whose daughter was pregnant.
