The commercial flower industry has been pretty much killed off. If you like fresh flowers, you are going to need to grow them yourself.
FYI: Plant flowers in your garden this year

PSA: Just wait until any chance of a frost has passed. We've been wanting to plant our annuals for a few days now, but the low temps have been hovering in the mid 30s at night. Will wait another week. In hindsight, we should've waited on purchasing the tray of annuals. But the garden center had them on rolling racks out front and we got excited. :-)

Nearby tulip farmers are looking into a black abyss. One of them had the idea to sell bouquets online to be delivered to hospitals and care facilities, but it didn't seem to be doing much based on the last news piece I saw.

We bought 5 trays of annuals a couple of weeks ago (my wife REALLY likes flowers!) and left them in the shade during the day and brought them into the garage any night that it was predicted to get into the 30's. That was useful because on one of the predicted 36 degree nights there was frost on the roofs in the morning.
But, we decided it's ok and so planted over the weekend. The current 10 day forecast shows the lowest temp as 44. That carries us into May and so surely we'll be ok. Or not. If not, I'll cover them with blue tarps, muttering the whole time.

Requirement is to provide where you live when it is not listed in your signature. Even just the State would be somewhat helpful. ![]() |
