Film Recommendations - this time some action/comic/superhero type
#21
No love for Deadpool, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow or Hellboy ?

I thought Aquaman was better than it should've been.

Thanks, folks. Since I usually watch with my kids, I limit it to PG13, and even then may whittle off a few.

I've seen The Incredibles, and BH6, amd liked both. They are a little different than typical animated fare. Also Miyazaki films, although I know that we're talking different styles at that point.

Definitely don't watch Deadpool with the kids.

Suppose that depends on what you declare to be “the modern” genre, but...

Incredibles - 2004
——————
The Crow - 1997
Spawn - 1997
Men In Black - 1997
Blade - 1998
The Matrix - 1999
X-Men - 2000
Spider-man - 2002
MIB: 2 - 2002
Hulk - 2003
The Matrix Reloaded - 2003
The Matrix Revolutions - 2003
Hellboy - 2004
IYAM it started with Iron Man (2008) or maybe Batman Begins (2005), but I'll gladly admit that's an entirely arbitrary chalk-snap.

Superman (1978) is the genesis of the modern superhero movie, but I think most aficionados recognize 2000’s X-Men with that distinction, at least in terms of being able to create a movie that depicts superpowers completely realistically.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004)
Spooky and done on Mac workstations using After Effects for compositing and Final Cut Pro for editing (seven workstations were dedicated to visual effects and production editing). The distinctive look of the film was achieved by running footage through a diffusion filter and then tinting it in black and white before color was blended, balanced and added back in.
