Confounded about my Apple ID Password - SOLVED
#1
I just changed my Apple ID password. But when I tried to use it to log into iCloud, it is rejected. I know I didn’t miss-enter the new password because I was careful to copy and paste it from a Notes document with the new password I wanted.

Now when I go to the Apple ID account page (where you can look up the password associated with your email address), it displays a password for my Apple ID that is completely different from the new one that I created. As a result, I can’t log into iCloud.

Is it possible to have more than one Apple ID for the same email address? If so, how can I find out what the unknown password is? What am I missing here?

You may have to call Apple support on this.

Try the password change game again, only this time you "forgot password". It may work.

I never saw a web page at Apple (or any other spectacle web site) that would show you the password.

i think what's happening you are confusing email address with Apple ID. for me it is the same, but I am not sure if Apple allows or not to have an Apple ID that is different from an email address. Maybe they do.

Anyway, just relax, wait a few hours, some servers may need to sync, then try again.

And if you know of a web page that would allow you to see your password, please share, since I do not know of such web page.

You're looking up your Apple ID associated with your email address, not your password.

You still have to know your own passwords.

Or click Forgot Apple ID or Password.

I've been through this dance a few times.

Anyway, just relax, wait a few hours, some servers may need to sync, then try again.

And this has been the fix each time.

“Anyway, just relax, wait a few hours, some servers may need to sync, then try again.“

Good advice. It just took some time for everybody to get on the same page.

I’m guessing Marv in the Login Dept. wasn’t at his desk when Carmen from the Reset PW Dept. stopped by to let him know that I had reset my password.

I highlight the word PASSWORD and you show me a page that shows your APPLE ID.

PASSWORD is not APPLE ID

Also you can have a different email address than your Apple ID (username). I first set up my ID using an (now defunct) email address that was used as my username. I now have a different email address, which I updated with no problem other than it takes time for everything to propagate through. I THINK I can change the username but I haven’t tried. This issue has confused the spousal unit, as when the email addresses changed, he assumed that it also applied to the Apple site, so he kept trying to use the current email address as the username, because the site says to use the email address to log in.
