A soon to be switcher, I've been chomping at the bit as I wait for my iMac 20" to arrive today via FedEx. Ordered through Apple so I could bump up the memory, better graphics, bigger hard drive. I'm working from home today so as soon as it arrives, I can set it up. Already got my office reorganized waiting, so I can transfer files from my PC, set up new HP printer, new wireless network. I feel like a kid waiting for Santa Claus at Christmas!!! I must have worn out FedEx tracking the past few days finding out where the delivery is!!!
One question for the Mac experts out there: Although Mac's don't get virus, I'm still thinking about getting virus program as a precaution, any words of advice out there?
Thanks! (soon to be ex PC guy except when I have to go to work)

congratulations and enjoy.
I don't run any virus protection on my mac, and in past threads here, I got the impression that many others don't use it either. I don't think we are being naive, but we are being cheap and/or lazy.
Since you are setting this up new from scratch, you should consider first setting up an administrator account first during the initial startup/configuration of the machine, but don't use that account generally. Then set up a second user account for you to use day to day. That gives an added level of security, since you are not logged in as an admin when using the computer, and also gives you a "clean" account to go back to for testing if anything does happen to your user account.
I don't know if the security purpose of this setup is defeated if you give that second user the ability to admin the machine (which is how I have it right now). That is easier and more convenient than having to switch users to install software, etc. But I can always turn off my ability to admin the machine if I want to, using the admin account.

If you intend to install Paralels or Bootcamp, you will need to install whatever you currently use for Windows.
I haven't used a Mac virus checker for several years. I was using Virex for a while, then ClamX AV.
Norton has been buggy enough that I would never consider it; MacAfee makes you buy three licenses if you want to use Virex. Intego might be worth considering if you want to shell out.

Virus protection on the mac side can screw things up...but as stated you need for the PC side just like on your other pCs.

Thanks all for the responses. Will not be running boot camp or parallels, since I have a work laptop, plus my wife has a laptop to use. I intend to use the Mac for video, photos, music, and surfing, as well as my web development. Not sure if I want to spend the money on Dreamweaver again, so I probably use the one on my work PC or install my version on wife's laptop. Basically, the Mac will be my multi-media, have fun again computer.

We have a tradition here when someone gets a new mac they are given a sign of affection and it seems that you haven't received one yet! [chalk it up to making your announcement up against Steve Jobs -- try not to do that again...] Anyway, here it goes...
