ViewSonic ColorPro VP2788-5K 27" monitor — $849.99
#1
A new 27" 5K monitor from ViewSonic, at $849.99, ~half the price of Apple's Studio Display.

Not even a first look yet, but some information about it from AppleInsider.

How do they make a monitor that thick and it still doesn't have a built-in power supply?!?!?!

I'm glad to see more 27" 5K displays starting to appear (like this one as well as the Asus ProArt), but I'm not going to get my hopes up until I see some convincing reviews and/or reports from owners. After all this time, we still don't have a clear choice for a 5K that is a good buy without its own set of tradeoffs.

I think I remember reading that the ProArt had backlight and color uniformity issues. I may not need a camera or speakers or high end build quality, but if I'm giving those things up, it's not a good value if the screen is 80% as good as the Studio Display.

Awesome. Perfect for an M4 Mac Mini to finally replace a 5k iMac.

RAM,

The Viewsonic is the most recent 5K display I've seen on the market. I've noted the LG, Samsung, Asus and one other no-name brand whose name I can't remember at the moment.

My brother has the Samsung for a Mini and he's happy with it. I tried one with a Mini and the display failed in a couple of hours. Wouldn't go near it.

At some point, I'll be replacing my 2019 iMac intel with a Mini M4 or M4 Pro and I'd been leaning toward either a reasonably good quality 4K display like the Dell P2723QE 27" or the Asus ProArt 5K display. Now that Viewsonic is in the mix, I'm looking forward to see what RTings has to say about it.

For those looking for a reasonably good 27" 4K display, you can add the Dell P2723QE one into the mix for consideration:

We just got an Mini M4 Pro for my office and coupled it to the Dell. RTIngs had good things to say about this particular model and noted its good compatibility with the Mac, something it couldn't say about many other models from Dell.

Will say I connected to the mini via USB-C and it's nice. The mini even automatically configured the display settings to my preferred resolution. It's nicer than the Innocn 27M2V I bought for our other mini and cost less via a sweet deal at B&H.

Still, neither can match the beauty of an Apple 27" 5K display. The Asus and Samsung come pretty dam close at less than half the price. If either of those are too pricey, the Dell I just noted is pretty darn good for the money, too. At least so far.
