A friend spilled soda on his G4 laptop keyboard, and now his keys are sticking. He is not having any other problem with the computer, just the keyboard. He is still able to use the computer, but the sticking keys have really slowed up his work.
Any suggestions as to how he can correct this problem without having to return it to Apple?
TIA

I'd replace the keyboard, you aren';t going to fix that one. Either send it to Apple, get the part of ebay and fix it yourself, check with your local service center.

Keyboard at a local Apple Service provider is easiest route.
Keyboard off ebay is the second easiest.
Easy to replace keyboard on G4 laptops. MacBook is a different story.

Might be a good idea to power down and carefully remove the keyboard to make sure that any remaining liquid gets wiped/dried up. You want to make sure that it's isolated to just the keyboard and doesn't start leaking to other sections of the PowerBook.

First, tell your friend to smack himself upside the head for having a soda within spillable distance of a laptop; this might well end up costing him the whole machine.
In my experience, the soda rarely stops at the keyboard; the sugars and acids are probably slowly working their way into the circuit boards, where they will inevitably (but probably not for quite some time) eat away enough circuitry to cause the machine to fail.
I certainly hope your friend caught it in time, and that only the kb needs replacing, but I'd advise him to get on a daily backup regimen NOW and stick with it. If ANY part of the underlying assembly has gotten "sticky," it's probably just a matter of time.
