I also like to hear what others may have to say. I have looked into it, and even applied it in a testing environment a year or so ago - but it never took off from there. Frankly, it really wasn't even tested due to other time and project constraints.

I set up a site for our department using Mambo (then Joomla) about 2 years ago. Easy to use and maintain - I farmed out the content management to some secretaries (I guess they're called administrative assistants). I maintain the backend. It was pretty easy to set up, though there was some learning curve.
The only problems are that some of the components don't work well and need tweaking. For instance, I've had trouble getting the photo gallery to work. But all in all, I think Joomla is a pretty good CMS, and when I looked into it 2 years ago, it was the best of the bunch.

It's gotten better and it's a good thing if content needs updating by non-tech folks.
I used it for a church site that needed many admins , etc.

It's getting pretty popular down here.
Some people rave about it.
So far I've avoided it, but I'm sure I'll be learning it soon.
