Removing TiBook display...
#1
I have no desire to save the LCD panel. It's messed up. I want to run this laptop as a headless unit. Can I just take the screws off the back and cut the cables? I assume that I'd have to fish the other ends out of the computer, but that's a whole lot easier than trying to take the logic board out (as iFixit.com suggests).

I don't see why not...

I'm wondering if there might be a problem with "seeing" the desktop using programs like VNC if you just clip the video wires. I remember in the old old days a headless Mac still needed a VGA connector attached to its video port if you wanted to view the computer's desktop when using Timbuktu or the like. Just a thought...

I should say that it's not entirely headless, will be connected via SVid to a TV monitor.

I ran a couple of PowerBook G3's w/o the internal display for testing once. They still thought they had a display attached, albeit, they didn't know what resolution. This can be a pain, b/c the internal display will still be the main display when you boot up.

For that reason, you may either want to keep the display, so you can boot up with the display lid closed, forcing the external monitor to be the only monitor, or keep a magnet handy and know where the sensor is and put the magnet over the sensor when you boot up. Though if you have a later TiBook that has the keyboard mirror/extended monitor F-key, you're all set and can just ignore everything I've said, boy was I jealous of that key when it first came out. I'm wanting to sell the hinges as they seem to be worth a bit of money. The LCD is usable but ugly. It's going to be plugged into a TV to stream Video_TS folders from my server. I hadn't thought about the booting issue... may have to reconsider the whole thing Smile
