How can I find room on Drive, says 0k left.
#1
I have deleted items, and keep emptying the Trash Can, but it still says 0 k available.

Is there something I can do to get the room , for the files I have been deleting back?

I did a Disk Util repair permissions... And I just tried to install iWeb only from the iLife8 CD, but it installed a little more than it had room for.

What can I do, when HD seems to be stuck at 0 K.

If your boot drive is full I'm surprised that the computer is working. Is this an external drive that you're talking about? I don't know if you'll be able to install it, but this application is really useful for finding out where your HD is being consumed:

It provides a graphical representation of the disk. Big blocks are big files. You can investigate if any of them can be deleted. Sometimes crashed applications leave behind large files of junk.

restart your computer--sometimes that clears things like this up if you actually do have more than 0k available.

good luck

1. Empty the browser cache and delete cookies? That will give you a little bit of space.

2. Delete unnecessary dmg files left over from software installations.

3. Delete stuff you don't need from the Downloads folder.

4. If you've got enough space after 1 through 3, download then run http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/ . That will give you even more space.

5. Look through your applications folder and delete any duplicated or useless programs. Oftentimes people will have multiple versions of Acrobat Reader and the like that are just taking up space.

6. Delete any music or image files that you don't need. iTunes has a method of searching for duplicate files. You might be surprised at how many there are.

7. Empty the trash after each set of deletions.

8. Do what ztirffritz pointed out. and run Disk Inventory X to find other garbage.

9. Buy yourself a new bigger hard drive. They are cheap and you're no doubt going to run into this problem again soon.

10. There is not 10, but I like round numbers.

I am really having trouble. I cant get any space back 0K. I cant install any apps. Any time I delete anything, and empty trash it doesnt give me any additional space.

I need to fix the file system. There are other symptoms, like not being able to close programs, etc.

Any recomendations. on what to run to fix the drive?

Right now I am just doing a manual copy of all files to a folder on an external HD. It will be slow usb 1.1, but I want to make sure I dont loose everything if I have to reformat, etc.

Did you restart?

If restarting doesn't help, then perhaps you should start with the system disk and use disk first aid to check out the disk.

Restart while holding the Shift key. This will take a couple of minutes or so.

That will take you into Safe Boot after running a fsck. Then reboot. If you still having problems, try the Install DVD/CD, but I think DiskWarrior will be in order/

Bad, bad move running a disk into little space. That can often lead to overlapping extents, and that almost always means file loss, to some degree.
