I have them already - on a Touch that is jailbroken.

interesting, are we talking apple addressbook and ical and do they sync with isync?

hmm... Apple's home page for the iPod Touch has the icons for iCal and Contacts on the screen:
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/ I'd also hacked my Touch, so I couldn't remember if it came with those or if I put them on, they must have been part of the Touch the entire time, hence no special announcement for them.

Calendar and Contacts come standard on the Touch. I think you can sync them to your mac, but not vice versa. Actually, I think you can sync the Contacts back to the mac, but the Calendar can't be edited on the Touch. But I don't use either feature, so it doesn't really affect me.

Too bad that is what I was looking for - to replace my pda. doesn't make sense no input of contacts or events.

I don't have an iPhone or a Touch, but I know you can input contacts and events into the Touch. I've done it in the store ... No idea how the Sync works, but I'd be really, really surprised if it was not bi-directional.

Can someone definitively confirm or deny that contacts/calendar can be synced on the Touch?? Sync, by definition, means both ways, btw....
I'm really close to grabbing a Touch, but not if this doesn't work! TIA, John

I have a Touch 1.1.2 (without the new $20 software). It came with Contacts (Address Book) and Calendar. Yes, you can add contacts or calendar events from the Touch. (You couldn't add to iCal when they first came out, but that was a bug that was fixed pretty quickly.) They do sync both ways; iTunes will warn you with something like "Syncing will add 4 events to your computer and change 3 and delete 2" or whatever, just like iSync would.
They do not sync with iSync. They sync through iTunes. When you hook up an iPod the window provides multiple panes to configure exactly how you want things to sync up: which photo albums, whether to sync contacts, or the calendar, and so on. I bought mine largely because of the Calendar feature. If you haven't tried it, it's a great interface.

Thanks Mike!
That's what I thought... So, with the addition of email, I could really see a Touch replacing my Treo. Still, rather than having to carry two devices, I'll probably still wait until my Verizon contract runs out next spring ('09, that is), and get an iPhone then... Who knows how much more cool they could be by then!!! I like that there are so many choices though... |
