Well...the order for the D300 had shipped before I decided that the Rebel XTI would be as good as a camera as I would need. I decided that I wanted a camera with more "bandwidth" to grow into and after reading (what seemed like) hundreds of glowing reviews about the D300...I am keeping the Nikon.

I went back and forth on the issue and I can always make more money to pay for my goodies (and not spend as much while I am at it, thanks to this forum).

Thanks to those who responded to earlier thread.

Pictures of the dogs will be posted in the next few days.

I like the Nikon menus and button layouts much better over Canon's. I think that Canon has a more extensive lens selection, but Nikon's 18-200mm VR is the best of all consumer zooms. Nikon IQ is currently better than Canon but both brands are pretty awesome.

I'd chose a D300 over any of the smaller-sensor Canons in a second. Canon still has the 5D for consumer full-frame, but beyond that we're talking pro dollars (thousands).

Enjoy your new Nikon D300! What lenses will you be using?

I bought the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF and the 18-200M VR lenses. Looking forward to taking a few hundred shots this weekend.
