I don't think that Toast 8 can use the turbo.264 yet.
If that's the case then Popcorn might be worth something...
It'd occasionally save a step over using just the turbo.264 if you have any unprotected DVD's.

I'd be converting mostly avi files, some quicktime, some already ripped video_ts files.

With the code ROXIO15, it came to 92.44 shipped for both for me.
Popcorn may be eligible for a rebate too since if you have an earlier version of Popcorn or Toast. Not sure about that though.

I might have been thinking of the "instant" upgrade rebate, which didn't seem applicable to the bundle. Haven't found another yet...

Thanks for the Roxio coupon code!
I took the plunge and am replacing my EyeTV250 with the Plus version and am getting the turbo.264, both through Roxio. So with the coupon, I'm essentially getting Toast 8 and Popcorn 3 for $17 when compared to getting just the units from ElGato.
Too bad Roxio didn't debut a new version of Toast this year, I now have two copies of Toast 8. Oh well, now I can be perfectly legal on both my desktop and laptop.

What kind of hardware you using?
Turbo.264 works great on slower Macs, but does nothing for my 3GHz QuadCore MacPro.

The faster the iron, the less effect the Turbo has.
Made a big difference on my 1.33GHz PB. But I'd rather use handbrake on my 2.0GHz mini.

I'd be using it on either a 1.25ghz G4 Sawtooth or a 1.83 ghz Intel Mac mini or the same speed Macbook Pro.
I used Handbrake on the G4 and it seemed to take a while to encode.
