Real world USB2 v. Firewire speed test
#1
I just got another super ebay deal in the mail - a 250GB Lacie USB2/FW pocket drive - the newer Hecht model. Nice little drive. Only $50 w/ 2 year warranty (gawd I love ebay)

I wiped the drive clean to the standard mac format and threw 5 avi files totaling about 900mb. USB2 finished in just about 60 seconds. FW moved the same files in about 28 seconds. Twice as fast in my very non scientific test.

I know it's old news,. but there it is just the same...

I suspect that even Firewire 400 would have put USB2 to shame.

From what I remember, that is at least partially dependent on quality of USB implementation, and the results may be different on Windows.

I've been told that USB2 is faster on a PC than a Mac. Has anyone ever done a PC USB2 vs Mac firewire test.
