HELP: Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS - Paper light is Flashing
#11
If you're not mechanically inclined, then perhaps you can't fix the printer. However, I think there's plenty of evidence that a large number of people with just a little technical savvy can easily fix these printers. The problem you cited on the other thread is pretty clearly the exit rollers (which is really more of a "maintenance service needed" item, not a broken printer item). If you have followed the instructions exactly and it didn't work, then there's a problem, but did you do that? I find that these machines are extremely simple devices...there's not much to go wrong that isn't easily diagnosable, nothing like a complex device like a car.

davester,

yeah, I am pretty good when it comes to repairs. I just didn't have the service manual, and I didn't want to take it apart last night (after a few beers). I want to tackle it when I have more time and after I read the service manual.

Hate to say it, but it's not not worth the trouble. Just get a Brother 5250DN or similar, and you will love it. They may not be built like a tank anymore, but they are better and faster.
I am glad I ditched my 16/600.

Part of why I put in a tiny bit of effort to keep things like this running is to counter the unsustainable "throwaway society", which has only been with us a few short decades but is having massive environmental effects.
