video camera suggestions?

I'm in the market for a video camera...any suggestions as to whether a tape or a hard drive based video camera is better?

The camera will be used to video tape individuals speaking to one another (hence must have a good mic), and the video will be shown to the interviewer/interviewee. It is part of a training exercise. Lighting in the room is moderate (meaning that it will be flourescent lighting and not very bright).

At this point, I am uncertain if they will want to save the videos for later demonstrations.

The camera needs to film a 12 x 12 foot room.

Any suggestions?

1) Tape offers best quality. HD convenience (but make sure the codec is Mac compatible if the video will be edited on a Mac)

2) No such thing as a "good" built-in mic. If audio is important you'll want to buy an external

3) Even so-call "low lux" cameras produce grainy video in low light. Can you find a way to add some lighting?

I am not sure what DS is. HD we don't need.

As for lighting, I dont think there is any way to add lighting. It will be flourescent overhead lights...but the quality of the images only have to 'acceptable'---i.e. for non-professional use. Home video cam quality should be acceptable.

Budget is about $1000.
