Robert Rauschenberg, RIP
#1
One of the great American artists of the 20th century, Robert Rauschenberg, passed away in Florida at age 82. His work beginning in the 1950s spanned the range of pop and abstract expressionism but transcended them both with his own unique assemblage style.

Yeah, I saw that. If I had to pick, he and Warhol are my favorites.

His work is incredible. He was a big influence on me as an art student in the 60s.

We've lost a truly great talent.

Great artist. I'll treasure my Talking Heads "Speaking In Tongues" with packaging designed by Robert.

I love his work, that's for sure. I love that whole abstract expressionist era. Loved the drama of it, especially in the 80's. Jasper Johns, Warhol, Jean Michel Basquait, Francesco Clemente, Cy Twombly, that whole era was fun.

Great artist and interesting person. His sister and her family live in my home town and I was friends with his nephew, who used to work summers at Captiva with Bob.

His mother lived on the same street as one of my best friends. Supposedly once before a Hurricane, she was looking for something to board the plate glass windows. She used one of his large paintings. When he found out about it , he asked, "Did you face the work out to the public or the back of the painting?

I can remember going over to their home and seeing this wonderful original artwork . It was my first exposure to Modern Art, which I love today. I had no idea at the time how renowned he was and would become. Its Funny, what is in your own backyard.
