Need New Tires: Ideas?
#11
Ammo,

Ignore anyone who tells you a specific brand makes the right tires for your vehicle, driving environment and driving habits. While W tire from Michelin is good for X car, in Y environment for Z driver, it may not be the best choice for your vehicle, where you live and your driving style. To take it a step further, X model from Michelin in Y size doesn't mean the same tire in a different size will offer equivalent performance on the same or a different car. You must do homework in order to find the right tires for your vehicle, environment and driving habits.

For example... I never in a million years expected to use Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires on a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor. Yet, research suggested them to be one of the best choices for the vehicle. I took the chance and they were fantastic. But, would they be the right choice for your car? Maybe. Maybe not. You'd have to do your homework.

Tirerack.com is a greta place for getting information. They were one of the sources I used when choosing the tires for the crown vic.

Go to tirerack and see what's popular in that tire size.

I bet Kumho models are a top choice.

[quote graylocks]plus, they fill with hydrogen for no extra charge. there's a lot of controversy as to whether or not that's a benefit but at least it's free. i do check my tire pressure and i've only need to add air to one tire once in almost 2 years.
I usually have them filled with Helium or Nitrous Oxide.

My tire recommendations would be based on where you live. I like Michelin I also like Yokohama. It would depend on your driving conditions. I live in Colorado. My winter set of tires is Michelin. My rest of the year set is Yokohama.

Discount Tire will price match to Costco.
