A Rose by any other name...More flower pics slight BW warning.

This is my climbing rose "New Dawn". It is trained along the fence that goes across the front of our property. There are just tons of blooms this year, so I thought I would take a few pics to share. It is slightly fragrant and, as you can see, blooms profusely when established. It requires no spraying and I don't even fertilize it. It is planted in our Georgia red clay and has only gotten the water that nature sees fit to provide. In case you haven't guessed, I like low maintenance plants.

My mother gave this plant me. She is a much more avid gardener than I am, especially as far as roses are concerned. I can't remember exactly when I planted it, but it is probably about 10 years old. The span of the rose is around 30'.

The big green shrubs/small trees just behind the fence are crepe myrtles. They should start having white flowers in June/July. Hopefully more pics of them when they are in full bloom. Just in front of the rose bush is a row of daylilies that haven't started to bloom yet either.

That is truly gorgeous and I am very jealous. Roses love clay and obviously that one loves your garden.

Our favourite rambler is one called 'Rambling Rector' and is half up an old pear tree and half over our summer house. I looked today and it is very heavy with buds but none are out yet. I will post a picture when it is. Should be a couple of weeks.

Gutie,
The color is nice. It is the palest shade of pink, as you can see.

Voodoo,
This is the only rose that I have had any luck with at all. My mom used to have dozens of hybrid tea roses but, due to our high humidity, they require a lot of spraying with fungicides to keep them healthy. I just don't have the time to do that much maintenance and even she has cut back on the number that she has.

PeterB,
I'll bet there must be some of this variety near you. It was voted the most popular rose in the world at the 11th World Convention of Rose Societies, so I'll be someone in the big easy must have one.

Rhonda,

We went to the Botanical Gardens last weekend. They had a Rose competition that was great. Lots of hybrids and colors that I'd never seen in a rose (green roses??). I'm not sure how long they were going to display them, but the room sure smelled good.

David,
I have seen those light green roses and they do look a little strange. I haven't been to the Botanical Garden in a long time; maybe it is time for another visit.
