I don't care--I can type on the iPhone much faster than I could write.
OTOH, line sketches--and rectification of same--could be useful. I think the Newton had that.

Voice to text would be better for quite memos to self. Like A.A. I can type fairly fast and accurate w/ the iPhone. I've had Palm Phones before with Graffiti. 1) it's almost like learning a whole new alphabet, 2) keeping up with the stylus is quite a feat, and 3) trying to write with the stylus is sheer torture.
It may be something longed for by some Mac Users, notably those who still pine for the Newton (or even still use one). I'm not sure there is a huge demand for it though.

. . .won't help me since I can't even read my own handwriting. . .

I'm with AA.
I've had a Palm V and a T3, and while I'm pretty good with Graffiti, I'm better with the 'Phone's keypad. And I'd wouldn't want to carry around a stylus. That would be my biggest hurdle to writing instead of composing. Certainly some people will find it useful, and it could be handy to make a drawing, especially if you could e-mail it.

If the Newton wuld have had a keyboard that you didn't need a stylus to use, I'd have used it over the handwriting reco. That being said, I still used the KB with the stylus, albeit slowly.
I worked on a handwriting recognition project for about a year that flew somewhat like the proverbial lead balloon. Yet considerable money was spent in the R & D. It went nowhere when it didn't sell as expected. No idea what ever happened to the technology - maybe Apple bought it :-)

Not interested in the least.
Apple's virtual thumbboard is not as good as the real thing, but way better than the best handwriting recognition implementation I've seen, the original graffitti.

Personally, I am not a bit interested.

I loved Grafitti on my Tungsten T3. Lost it when I moved to a Treo 650 and, I still miss it. I'd definitely consider it a plus when considering the 3G iPhone.
