ah... stupid question: how do you "deauthorize" a computer in iTunes?
#1
I have now 4 computers authorized out of 5. Of course, I only own 2. Probably the other 2 are:

iBook G3 that was replaced by Apple under AppleCare about 2 years ago
iBook G4 I sold on eBay a few months ago. of course, I forgot to de-authorise both of those. The G4 I sold was fresh install, I nuked and paved before I sold it. I didn't even thing to check iTunes to deauthorise it.

Is there a way to deauthorize a computer online without calling Apple?

You do it through your account in itunes. But you have to deauthorize all. You cannot just do one or two. I just did mine last night for the same reason. I had some machines that were erased or sold and i forgot to deauthorize before. So i just deauthorized all and reauthorized the 2 I am using now.

Thanks, I also found it online:

"How do I deauthorize all of my computers?
If you have authorized five computers, a button labeled "Deauthorize All" will appear in your Account Information screen. This button will deauthorize all computers associated with your account. You can then reauthorize up to 5 computers. Note: You can only use this feature once a year."

Oddly, I tried to do it a week or 2 ago and that option was not there. I just assumed that my year wasn't up yet.
