Anyone have a IKEA Sofa and kids? Anyone Make a Custom Slip Covers
#1
We are looking to buy a new sofa that isn't to expensive but is not as bulky as what we already have. There is a couple at IKEA that we like but are worried about the durability. This wouldn't be THE LAST COUCH WE EVER BUY but we would like to get a few years out of it if possible.

We are getting offered a couple of couches from a family member who just passed. One is a 7' Brown Hide a bed which is pretty compact looking (not overly bulky IMO) and the Other is Green Velvet and has a very sleek look to it. They are both in very very nice condition but obviously the colors would not work at our house. How hard and expensive is it to do a custom slip cover that doesn't look like crap?

Any suggestions would be great.

. . .I never knew that an IKEA sofa could have kids. . .? am I wrong to think that. . .?

. . .I know someone with one and it seems to have held up well. . .but I guess it depends on how 'enthusiastic' the kids are. . .

I like the fact that you can sometimes see how ikea things wear at the store, just from customer handling. You might want to talk to some of the floor help to find out what would go out on certain models.

If you have the name of the item, there may be some reviews on-line by others.

My father is in the upholstery business and good, quality upholstery can easily exceed the cost of a new couch if you are not looking at very high end furniture.

Custom made slipcovers can be somewhat less depending on the fabric chosen, but you might still be surprised at the expense.

I have no experience with Ikea couches, so I can't help you there.
