Color LaserWriter 12/660 Update - IT WORKS!!!
#1
Thats right, I found a working Color LaserWriter 12/660 on the street. I had to do exactly two things to get a test print out of it - nudge one of the toner carts inside and remove a jammed sheet of paper.

Strange - it says the page count is 33. (maybe after 50 now that i've run some paper through it)

the pages seem to be streaked with a bit of fuser oil. any idea how to fix this?

FIrst things to print out... Print out photos of the dancer that walked home w/ you.

Haa haa...

In all seriousness... I'm sure someone can help you figure out what's wrong w/ the printer... PAGE COUNT OF 33!?!?!? That doesn't seem right... Does it have a network port? how much memory? How much is toner for the printer?

Matt, The oil should clear up, It just got all over from moving it around.

If you didn't get a test sheet and a sheet with the information such as memory etc, there is a little switch on the back. If it is up put it down, if it is down, put it up and when you restart the machine it should then give you the test sheet.

Congratulations!

hrm, i think i was wrong about the fuser oil. its not fuser oil on the page. it appears to be a light dusting of toner in a vertical streaky fashion. i'm printing blank pages. i'm not sure if the problem is as bad if i print something - but it still shouldn't be doing this.

You musta found one where the odometer rolled... I think that means ONE MILLION and 33 pages. [/snark]

Congrats on the great find! My free LW360 pales in comparison.

I didn't quite "find" one.. but I did buy 6 of them, plus six 17" CRTs, a 20" CRT, a G3 AIO, a Color Classic, and about 20 other powermacs, 6 iMacs, plus 15 pairs of Apple powered speakers, for $120 about 3 years ago. I sold all the items I didn't want to someone else for $50 afterward. Netting me about $70 for all that stuff.

I have two 16/600's that work great. 3 Pro 630's with exit roller jams, 1 Pro 630 with intake roller jamming. I haven't really bothered working on the 630s yet since the 16/600's do fine. (And I'm only using one of them for now).

Still, I'd kinda rather have a Laserwriter 8500 or one of the color laserwriters.

Exit Jam Repair was a little involved but kind of easy if you get the video (or QT video) instructions w/ it...

Yeah, I'll repair them one of these days.

But seeing as I don't actually have a use for them, I'm not in a hurry. I'd probably end up repairing them and giving them to friends to print with. My friends are all college-aged and broke, so if I don't fix them, I don't lose money on them.
