another vote for mini w/ big dots monitor. dell 19" at 1280 X 1024 is nice, but maybe you can find a samsung 203B, which is a 20" at 1400 X 1050, or TigerDirect/Compusa/CC just had a 28" at 1920 X 1200 for $329 that is easy to see. big pixels are important to old people. iMac native rez is too small pixels, and lowering rez can get fuzzy (luck of the draw), but works great as second monitor using external as main monitor, but doesn't stated budget, so stay w/ mini, or convince mom to up the ante.
