If I read the OP correctly, then it sounds like the zip-tie method would work to keep the flap from opening. I also like the idea of using a reinforcing bar to make the rabbit wire more rigid.

You could probably find a length of tension bar that is used for chain link fence and thread/weave it along the bottom of the wire.

Lee3 is on a good track with his suggestions. I am on my third escape expert (Siberian Husky). I used the electric wire method run around the yard. Was rather easy to install. When you need a new area protected, just tie into the existing fence with any new wire. Soon the dog will respect the wire without even touching it. It was relatively cheap compared to ALL the other devices and schemes that my Huskies successfully and easily defeated. The electric wire fence stopped them.

I used a product called Fido Shock.

We will leave the electrical shock method as the last resort. In the meanwhile we attempt other ideas suggested here. But first we will try this: I will leave the scene. She will attempt to break out. My S/O will throw a soft pillow at her while giving out verbal command to stop her in her track. It worked when we taught her not to go to the bathroom.

That's what I'd do. Catch her in the act. Firmly let her know that that behavior is not acceptable. Repeat as needed. Doing this now will make it easier to deal with any future behavior problems.

A dog owner friend also suggested to redirect a dog behavior with a spray water bottle. We will be the one in the neighborhood with a fence link decorated with colorful spray water bottles Wink

As for the fence, we will install another sheet of rabbit wire outside part of gate. Sort of double the layer the gap between the doors.
