sell the speakers and put the money towards a new set.

That's exactly what I was going to say...

Make sure you specify that they ONLY work with the G4 iMacs, and the G4 Digital Audio machines. There are plenty of those machines still in use, so I bet you wouldn't have too hard of a time selling them.

And who exactly is going to buy them???

Seriously though, I imagine if I was going to sell them the time would be now. The number of machines that they work with (and still in use) has to be rapidly dwindling!

those are the ones that came with a really short cord weren't they? So even if you figured out a way to use them, the cord was too short to put them anywhere useful. At least in my case. I found an extension cord long ago but it was only for sale in some foreign country and never in stock.

Yea, I sold a couple of those iFire's for $150 a couple/few years back. I was shocked when the first one sold that I quickly sold the second.

Also check out the Griffin PowerWave. It's a USB interface that can also power the Apple speakers, but usually is cheaper b/c people don't realize this.

One model of the of the Digital Audio speakers came with a longer cord, they may have been the ones intended for sale with the 'Cube. But it has been a while, so I could be remembering it wrong which model they were for. The long cord speakers did get a premium when sold used. As for the extension cord, at least one of the US makers of after-market Mac items sold one, but that ended shortly after the speakers were discontinued.

Thanks for reminding me! I have one of those lying around somewhere, and could use it to get one set of speakers working with my MBP!!

A bit off topic, but I just tried some Cube speakers on my G5. Worked great.

For example, they work beautifully with the "Mirrored Drive Door" and "Mirrored Drive Door 2003" Power Macs G4s, as well as the Power Mac G4 (FW800) and "Quicksilver" G4 towers. Go to http://support.apple.com/specs/ and search for "Apple speaker minijack", which is what Apple calls the proprietary connector which also supplies power to the Apple Pro Speakers.

I had the Pro Speakers and the USB iSub hooked up to my MDD G4 for years - it was a superb-sounding combination which also looked cool and took up very little room on my small desk. When I switched to a Mac Pro and a larger monitor, I was forced to keep the Pro Speakers and use an iFire adapter, just for space reasons.

I had wondered briefly about using the minijack off of a dead G4 logicboard and using its (or an aftermarket) amplifier, but figured it would be too complicated and expensive. However, with the absurd prices of an iFire lately, it might make sense nowadays!
